Local 4214 is a ” New” local that has grown out of what remained of the CUPE members from the old Interlake Regional Health Authority. The remaining handful of CUPE members, all working for Diagnostic Services Manitoba, took on the task of running Local 4214 and in the past two years we have come a long way. Our voice was heard as members of the Provincial Health Care Council and DSM employees finally have a very long awaited new collective agreement. As part of that agreement, Local 4214 spent the last half of 2015 merging members from CUPE locals working in DSM sites across to the province together into one team.
Welcome to all the new members of Local 4214. Together we are stronger.
The next General Membership meeting will be held on Monday May 16, 2016 at Selkirk General Hospital in the boardroom. Agenda items will include 2nd reading of the proposed changes to the Bylaws elections for the positions of President, Secretary-Treasurer & one trustee by-election to fill the vacant Vice-President position Quorum is essential. 2016 Winter School Report to Members

I want to thank everyone for your continued support in sending our members to union education events.
Morgan and I recently attended CUPE Winter School which is held each year in Gimli. For those members who have no experience with a school like this, here is a quick idea of what it is like. Thursday evening following registration, we attended opening plenary where we are welcomed and the rules and expectations are reviewed. Former CUPE president, Paul Moist was a guest speaker this year. This was followed by the first sessions of our workshops and then an opportunity to relax and socialize with other attendees. Morgan and I sat in the lounge, ate some dinner and watched the last period of the Jets game with a few other members. Friday and Saturday we spent all day (9am to 4pm) in workshop sessions and Saturday night we were treated to a delicious banquet and social evening which included ‘skits’ put on by each of the classes. These are usually done during closing plenary after a quick follow-up session Sunday morning before everyone heads home, but due to scheduling conflicts it was agreed (as much as anyone agrees to do these skits) to have them Saturday night. … Read more…
